Morocco - November 2022

Kassie J Runyan

We spent a week in Morocco with Morocco Immersion Tours! https://moroccoimmersion.com/ - Highly recommend. We wanted to see a lot in only 7 days - and to have a private guide so we could move at own pace. It was amazing! We had Sallam as our guide/driver - and he was phenomenal. Sharon planned our whole trip and we got to meet her and Abdou while in Morocco!

Details and links:

  • Day 1: Flew into Casablanca and drove to Chefchaouen - even with a missed and rebooked flight - we made it to Chefchaouen in time to crash heavily in our giant hotel room: https://riadhicham.com/en/

  • Day 2: Explored Chefchaouen on our own (the blue city) in the morning before heading out in the afternoon and driving to Fez - so much to see on the drive! Explored some Fez at night before crashing in our beautifully detailed Riad: Riad Al Makan

  • Day 3: Guided tour of Fez - including jewish quarters, medina, pottery shop, and more!

  • Day 4: Dramatic landscapes as we drove from Fes to Merzouga - to ride camels and camp in the Sahara. What a once-in-a-lifetime experience. We got to partake in "Luxury Camping" at https://merzouga-dunes-luxury-camps.com/camps/

  • Day 5: Early morning Camel trek back to the cars and saying goodbye to the sweet guys. Then to Dades Valley via Todgha Gorge. A private tour through a Berber Village with some time understanding the family and community farming and buying a rug from a local weaver. https://www.chezichou.com/

  • Day 6: Drive to Marrakech. Long driving day - but lots to see! Including the UNESCO World Heritage site of Aït Benhaddou (and home of lots of films including Gladiator) and then high into the West Atlas mountains before ending the day in Marrakech: https://www.riad-alrimal.com/en/

  • Day 7: Morning Private walking tour through Marrakech - the medina and history! Before heading back to Casablanca to fly out early the next morning.
