A Quick Tour of The Oregon Coast
We were able to head out to Oregon last weekend making this our 13th trip to Oregon in the 21 years we’ve been together. We really do try to explore new places, but it is very hard to stop returning to the ones we love. Apparently, we are adventurous people with several highly specific comfort destinations.
We first went to Oregon in 2011 on a two+ week road trip with Rick’s parents and brother, following roughly the same route his parents had been taking every other summer since the ’70s. And I completely fell in love with it. Rick’s dad was so disappointed that it was raining on my first visit to the coast, and I had to explain that cool, rainy weather is actually my preferred September weather for walking around a working fishing bay. Yet another reason Rick and I are perfect for each other.
This time, Rick’s parents were making a quick drive out to the coast, and we were fortunate enough to join them for three days in Newport before spending an afternoon in Portland on our own. The way we are able to explore the coast has obviously changed quite a bit over the years, but we still managed to see so much. We explored the water, watched birds, ate an honestly unreasonable amount of seafood, and tried the new brewery that replaced Rogue. Eh. Sorry, but it wasn’t our favorite. And why is it so bright in there? I would like my coastal brewery lit like a coastal brewery, please. Not an operating room.
