The Island Just Beyond the City By The Dreamer · Kassie’s Journal

There is something strange about Governors Island.
Every time the ferry pulls away from Manhattan, it feels like crossing into another world.
Not far away. Not dramatic. Just... different. The noise softens. The pace slows. The city begins to feel less like something surrounding you and more like something you are simply looking at from afar.
And somehow, despite being only minutes away, it feels removed from everything.
That is what I love most about this place. Governors Island always feels a little forgotten to me. Like a place time left behind in the gentlest way possible. Wide open lawns. Quiet paths. Historic buildings stand still while the skyline rises behind them.
We spent the day doing very little, which sometimes feels like the greatest luxury of all.
Walking. Snacking. Drinking wine while staring at the skyline. Wandering with nowhere to be.
Later, tucked into our tent with the city lights dancing outside and The Exorcist playing from bed, I remember thinking how strange it is that peace can sometimes exist just beyond chaos.
That maybe the places we need most are not always far away.
Sometimes they are simply waiting across the water.
